# Join a server
You've been invited to a Phlip server. You can join from the **Phlip app** (Android) or **any browser** — same experience either way.
## What your host sends you
A **join code**. Local servers use <span class="dp-serial">9F2K4X</span>; public ones add the address, like <span class="dp-serial">9F2K4X</span>`@yourdomain.example`. If you're on the host's Wi-Fi, the app can usually **discover the server automatically** — no address needed at all.
## First time
1. Open Phlip (or the server's web address) and choose **Join**.
2. Enter the join code.
3. Pick your **name** and choose your own **password** — this is yours alone; nobody shares passwords on Phlip.
4. Wait for the host to **approve** you. Done — you're in.

## Every time after
Sign in with your **name + password**. If you're on a device the server recognises, that's all; on a new or unrecognised device you'll be asked for the join code once as an extra check, then it's remembered.
Your password does real work here: it's not just a login, it's the key that unlocks the group's end-to-end encrypted content for you (see the [[../FAQs|FAQs]]). Losing it means asking the host to re-admit you — pick something you'll remember.
## Personal space
Before you join anything, Phlip gives you a **personal space** — your own private planner that works offline. Join multiple servers and your **Upcoming** view collates every event you're going to (or might be) across all of them in one deck.
